Vocabulary Words DNA (Deoxyribonuclenic Acid)- a chemical in the nuclei of cells that codes and stores genetic information; consists of strands of molecules that control cell activities using coded instructions. Gene-the segment of DNA on a chromosome that directs the making of a specific protein, thus controlling traits that are passed off to the offspring of its two parents. RNA (Ribonucleic Acid)- carries codes for making proteins. Amino Acids- the building blocks of proteins. Mutation- any permanent change in an organism’s genetic material, which is DNA. Clone- an individual that is genetically identical to one of its parents. Gene- the segment of DNA on a chromosome that directs the making of specific protein, thus controlling traits that are passed to offspring. Genetics- the science of how traits are inherited through alleles passed from one generation to another. Genome- a map of the location of individual genes on every chromosome of an individual.
